The Sooke School District’s International Student Programs offer students from the around the world an opportunity to live and study within Vancouver Island's Greater Victoria area. The Sooke School District serves the suburban Victoria communities of Colwood, Langford, the Highlands and Bear Mountain, the rural community of Metchosin, and the seaside village of Sooke. Much of this area is better known as Greater Victoria’s WestShore, one of the fastest growing urban regions in British Columbia.
Popular for its access to ocean beaches, wilderness parks and excellent recreational facilities, the WestShore communities are but a half hour’s drive from Victoria’s vibrant Inner Harbour and downtown shopping experiences. A half hour further distant, the seaside village of Sooke offers the ‘small town Canada’ experience that is a preference of some students and their families.
School placements are available both in Victoria's WestShore and in the Sooke community. Although our school district is named after the seaside village of Sooke, more than 80 percent of our school district’s students are enrolled in Victoria's WestShore area schools. Applying international students are welcome to indicate their preference for an urban, rural or smaller town setting.
The Sooke International Student Program has a proud twenty-one year history of success. Students from over 25 countries, including Japan, Germany, Brazil, Mexico,China, Korea, Hong Kong, Russia, Georgia, Ukraine, France, Austria, Spain, Sweden, Finland, Switzerland, Colombia and Argentina, have chosen Victoria's Sooke School District as the best place to experience Canadian education, culture and friendly homestay families.
Qualified graduates of Greater Victoria's Sooke International Program may choose to enrol in many of Canada's finest universities and colleges. Recent program graduates now attend the University of British Columbia (UBC), the University of Toronto ( U of T), The University of Waterloo, the University of Victoria ( UVIC) and colleges across B.C.
Each year, we accept fewer than one hundred and fifty International students for placement in one of fifteen different elementary, middle and secondary school locations.
